and George W. Bush often attributes his successes to his parental influences. When Bush ran for President, he was the 46th governor of Texas, his second term in that office (History Central, 2003). As a Texas politician, Bush was noted as a Republican, a conservative, but willing to consider bipartisan legislation when it best served the interests of the state (History Central, 2003). Bush was born on July 6th, 1946 and grew up in Texas, primarily in Midland and Houston (History Central, 2003). Following what some have argued was a "traditional" childhood, George W. left home to move east and attend Yale University, where he received his bachelors degree and a second bachelors degree from Harvard Business School (History Central, 2003). Following his educational career, Bush entered the Texas Air National Guard, and became an F-102 pilot (History Central, 2003). After his service, Bush focused on a career in the oil and gas industry in Midland, Texas, but didnt truly enter the political realm until he began working on his fathers 1988 presidential campaign (History Central, 2003). Following his fathers successful bid for the presidency, the junior Bush joined a group of partners in purchasing the Texas Rangers baseball franchise and he served as managing general partner until his gubernatorial bid in 1994 (History Central, 2003). Bushs success as governor led to suggestion that he run for the presidency, and he did this successfully in 2000.
