MEMORANDUM To: From: Subject: Assessment of the website of Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee of the State of Connecticut Date: February 9, 2006 The Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (JJAC) of the State of Connecticut maintains a website (http://www.opm.state.ct.us/pdpd1/grants/JJAC/JJSystem.htm) that provides an overview of the juvenile justice system of the State of Connecticut. The overview is not limited only to number of juveniles "in the system," arrested, referred to halfway houses, processed through juvenile court, transferred to an adult court or other possible destinations for delinquents or those juveniles at risk of becoming delinquent. Rather, it provides much of this type of information but also speaks to the goals of Connecticuts juvenile justice system and describes the services available through the juvenile justice court system. This site was chosen because of the gravity of its subject matter and its combination of effective and less effective graphic elements. The Sites Graphics As a website of a state agency, there are no extraneous graphic elements included at this site. It is almost all text; its only graphic elements are a logo of the juvenile justice system, two tables and one flowchart. The logo, shown in Figure 1, is quite striking and pointedly appropriate for juvenile justice. It provides of view of care and concern in an area where there must be consequences for poor choices.
