The "brush-heap structure" (Gray, 1980, p. 546) of chrysotiles fibrous composition develops when added to fresh or salt water; bulk volume is trimmed down by virtue of palletizing, while well site dispersion occurs more rapidly when preshearing is applied. Despite its "adequate carrying capacity" (Gray, 1980, p. 546), filtration control is a concern when employing chrysotile asbestos in drilling fluid, however, inasmuch as bentonite is typically necessary to combine with it to "provide good hole-cleaning with some filtration control" (Gray, 1980, p. 546).
