In first understanding what the draft is all about it is important to look at some military history. The draft can be seen as something
that is directly connected to the selective service. The selective service was first initiated in 1917 when President Wilson realized there were not enough men in the military to go
to war overseas (History.com). He instated the selective service which insists that all men of a certain age register. This does not mean that they will be called to war
but it seems to create a list from which the selective service can pull names if a draft is instated and men are forced to go to war. This is
what occurred during the Vietnam War and the draft has not been used since, although young men are still required to register when they turn 18 years of age.
When looking at history it is clear that, even without doing research, the draft was initiated during Vietnam War because the United States
government was determined to win the war and there were clearly not enough men willing to go to war. They forced young men to go overseas and fight their war
and many today feel that this is a serious infringement on ones freedoms. While many may argue that a man, or woman for that matter, should feel some obligation to
