and reactions. In order to maintain popularity for centuries, it must encompass some of the attributes that are shared by all people from all times and walks of life. A classic, such as the play Antigone by Sophicles, speaks to every man, woman and child in the audience in a different ,manner and yet has a universal appeal as well. Robert L. Lewis is now the retired managing partner of Ulmer & Berne LLP (a law firm in Cleveland, Ohio). He is also the man behind a program that uses the play by Sophicles to teach the forty-six employees of the firm the many sides of law. He believes the play is a way to remind them of the fact that law is only one area of the humanities and that philosophy, literature and art are also important ingredients that allow law to include "scholarship, leadership, altruism, civilized conduct and culture" (Conte 26). The play incorporates issues that are just as relevant in the modern world as they were 2500 years ago when the play was first performed. The case of Antigone is not all that much different from Rosa Parks whose 1955 act of civil disobedience brought the question of justice, honor and integrity into the courtroom as well as to the attention of the public (Conte 26). These are the issues that should concern those in the law profession, just as they are issues that have continually been of concern throughout time. Antigone is a tragedy in the tradition of the earliest Greek playwrights.
