Introduction When looking for documents on a computer, users are often frustrated. They may search for an item and find other similar ones but cannot retrieve the document they are searching for. In order to analyze the system, several participants have been chosen for short interviews. Conducting interviews can be daunting for the inexperienced. Ross, Nilsen & Dewdney (2002) explain quite succinctly how to conduct a reference interview and suggest that questions be created to suit the situation. While there are ten volunteers in all, four were selected to gain information from a diverse pool of workers. One participant is a writer, another is a receptionist, and a third is a manager. Finally, one participant is a nurse. The selection criteria for the pool of individuals mandated that they all have used the Mac O/S 9 system for a period of six months or longer.
