Bang theory, and provides that the universe does not have an origin but is ever-expanding as new matter is created ("Steady-State Theory," 2007). While the idea of a universe with no beginning is daunting, so are other concepts such as the idea that he universe is infinite. Hence, the steady-state theory does provide a sensible look at the universe. However, in 1965, cosmic background radiation was discovered, and it was then that scientists discounted Steady-State and began to once again favor Big Bang ("Steady-State Theory," 2007). This does not mean that the steady-state theory is wrong. The strength of the steady state theory is actually its inherent flexibility and application to all things. However, its weakness is that there are some phenomena in the universe it cannot explain, which is why when microwave radiation was discovered, Big Bang received more support. b) Describe an observation, which disfavors predictions of the steady state theory and favors some sort of explosive origin. In respect to this theory, the discovery of quasars seemed to contradict steady state as quasars are small and found at great distances ("The Steady State Theory," 2007). The light takes billions of years to reach the earth and so quasars are objects that come form the past, and this suggest that a few billion years earlier, the universe was different than it is today ("The Steady State Theory," 2007). Some scientists believe that this discovery is more in line with the Big Bang theory that speculates that the universe was created by a sort of explosion. Since 1965, with the discovery of microwave background radiation that steady state cannot explain, the theory was rejected by many cosmologists ("The Steady State Theory," 2007). In effect, Big Bang was the new favorite. Kox, Siegel ...
