Childhood obesity is
a nationwide problem. There are numerous community agencies that address this issue, however, both on a national level and on state or local levels. One such agency
in Alabama is the Alabama Cooperative Extension. This organization is an outreach organization whose goal is to improve the lives of its clients through education. The organization focuses
on several different areas of concern and has specialized branches to cover each of those areas. Family welfare is of particular concern and the agencies Expanded Food and Nutrition
Education Program targets nutritional concerns specifically. The mission of the Extension Service, in part, is to reach low income
families and to educate them as to how they can improve their health and welfare within their limited resources. The Extension teaches these families how to make their food
choices on the bases of nutritional and health concerns rather than solely on factors such as cost, convenience, and popular choice. Those families that receive food stamps are of
