developed. The emotional and psychological problems experienced in childhood will last throughout that persons life, unless they receive intervention services.] Introduction Children living in alcoholic families face challenges that
are most often beyond their coping abilities. For one thing, alcoholism is the root of a great deal of child abuse. For another, these children live in conditions that are
at the very least unstable and insecure causing a variety of problems in the children (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2000). Research has continually demonstrated that children in
alcoholic families are at risk for a range of emotional, cognitive and behavioral problems. It should be said, however, that not all children living with an alcoholic parent develops psychopathology
but a large percentage of them do indeed develop behavior disorders and a variety of psychological problems (Ellis, Zucker and Fitzgerald, 1997; National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2000).
It should also be said that children living with parents who abuse other substances are at equal risk. The parents personality affects the childs personality. Social learning theorists stress the
