It is a religious and a social controversy, a personal and a legal controversy. It has no real answer and there is no concrete evidence for perhaps any position taken. The following paper presents two differing opinions regarding abortion. Abortion: Two Sides The opinions of this particular writer/researcher are perhaps, or perhaps not, common opinions. This individual, raised Catholic but with no religious beliefs as an adult, feels that there is no ultimate way to know when a fetus becomes a human being but that the moment of conception indicates that the "thing" is alive. By terminating this growth something is being killed and the thing that is being killed, if allowed to live, will become a human being whose purpose or importance is unknown. As such people should never, for their own selfish desires to be free of pregnancy or motherhood, kill, abort, that fetus. But, this writer/researcher also knows that most people do not feel this way and a woman should have a choice. By having a choice, legally, this creates a society wherein women do not have to hide, try to conduct abortions on their own, or seek "back alley" abortions illegally wherein they risk their own life and health. Women will get abortions, whether or not they are legal, and to protect them abortions should be legal.
