far from it. Though an ancient Eastern science, acupuncture, when used in certain respects, is proving to be a powerful addition to Western medicine as well.
The literature available on acupuncture is filled with the miracles of this procedure. When done correctly, it can treat pain resulting from athletic injuries, menstrual cramps,
infertility, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome and even asthma (Canyon, 2004). It also can help in cases such as migraine headaches, nausea, chronic neck and back pain and other
potential ills as well. First introduced in China more than 2,000 years ago, acupuncture is the insertion of tiny needles into specific
points of the body (Canyon, 2004). In Eastern medicine, the body is more than simply flesh, blood and bones -- its tied together by a life force, with each part
of the body interconnecting with other parts as well. If one part is aching, for example, the source could be tenderness in another part. Accupressure, a similar treatment to acupuncture,
relies on treating pressure points on the hands and feet that correspond to aching parts of a body. The theory behind acupuncture
is that various points of the body are located along meridian lines, channels that run throughout the body (Canyon, 2004). Insertion of needles into these locations helps stimulate or calm
