ambitious and has decided she wants to go to college. She has, however, some obstacles that are getting in the way of specific decisions she can make about her academic
career and her job future. For one thing, there is her obligation to her family - her father is disabled and her
mother, who is earning a teachers salary, is the one who is the main breadwinner of the family. There is a certain feeling of guilt associated with this most likely
- although she is an excellent student who scores very high on her SAT tests, there is the concern that college will be too much for her family to handle
both financially and without her being there to help her mother with her father and her younger brother. In addition, Amelia, like
so many people her age, just doesnt know what she wants to do when she grows up. Beset with confusion and wanting to make the right decision, Amelia is paralyzed
by indecision - which again, is a common thing for adolescents to experience. This is a period of time in which adolescents are beginning to complete the final separation from
their family unit - a time of stresses that dont need to be complicated about concerns such as career and college choices. Yet unfortunately, this is the time during which
adolescents are forced to think about not only where they are now, but also where they need to be in the near and far futures.
