internet giant erupted onto the field blowing competitors like Apple away. The question is, can Googles Android remain a success or is it nothing more than a flash in a
pan phone? Many attribute Googles rampant success in this market to the companys willingness to allow any cell phone carrier the opportunity to
carry its phones. The Android can be found through Verizon, Sprint, and plenty of other carriers whereas the iPhone can only be found through AT&T (Lyons, 2010). It is believed
that Apples reluctance to let other phone companies carry their product is ultimately hurting the company instead of making the phone an item of envy.
This section of the paper assists the student in demonstrating the different ways in which the Android OS expresses its market value. One reason for the Androids popularity
is due in large part to Googles advertising and marketing strategy. The effective use of marketing channels has streamlined the journey from manufacture to placing the phone in the purchasers
hand. Marketing channels are also successfully utilized for branding, however. Googles brand is well known for generating a very large and very loyal customer base that has certainly helped to
boost smart phone sales. Many claim that Verizon is even boosting sales through their use of promotional give-a-ways and deals that many customers find irresistible (Lyons, 2010).
