3.1 Reflection 15 REFERENCES 17 1. Introduction It is estimated that since the 1980s more than 1 million babies have been born where mothers were exposure
to cocaine during pregnancy (Mathias, 2003; 11). With this number of births any impacts, physical, developmental or mental, that result from the exposure making this an issue of public
interest and an area where understanding and policies need to be developed. Research into this area has been limited as exposure to cocaine is often accompanied by exposure to other
factors, such as tobacco and alcohol that can also impact the invetro and later development of the babies exposed. This report will serve two purposes. Firstly it will demonstrate
the students ability to formulate and conduct a research strategy. The paper will outline how this strategy has been formulated and where the different sources of information have been obtained.
The paper will also contain a reflect section which will review the use of the different sources of information and consider how research skills could improve and the ways a
better research project may have been put together. The second purpose is as the introduction first suggested, to make a study of a very important area. This is an
area where there has been some interest taken already, but this is also a complex area due to the fact that cocaine exposure is usually combined with a number of
other adverse influences such as alcohol and tobacco and possibly other drugs. This paper will identify the influences due to only cocaine and as such demonstrate the ability to collect,
