also results in the development of stress. Identifying the theoretical underpinnings of individual experience can be beneficial in understanding the situation, as well as in gaining a closer understanding
of the theory itself. My First Job When I was 16 years old, I took my first job at a small store near my home. Often when
people make employment choices, their motivation is based on what Maslow called the Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow recognized that needs that determined certain behaviors were defined along a hierarchy,
with the physiological needs far outweighing needs for self-actualization. In other words, the typical worker seeks employment to meet basic physiological needs, e.g. food, shelter, etc. In my
case, my first job was not about meeting my very basic physiological needs, because I was still living at home with my parents. In fact, my parents were clear
that my job could not come before school, and that the job was simply a supplemental activity. In terms of Maslows Hierarchy Theory, my first job helped me
meet a number of significant needs, though economic need was not a primary issue. This job may not have been the most difficult or challenging, but it did require
attention to details and the capacity to work as a part of a team. As a result, I saw the job as experiential, as providing me with the tools
