People oriented professions come with a lot of entanglements and workers must take care to exhibit ethical conduct. Personal ethics do play an enormous role in the quality of professional practice. Dubinsky, Nataraajan, and Huang (2004 as cited in Rotfeld, 2006) claim that given a situation, the employees own ethical perception can help in certain situations where they ultimately do the right thing. The comprehension of ones views on ethics is relevant. Decision-making becomes easier if one is guided by certain rules. If, for example, an individual is presented with a situation, he or she can gauge a response with the use of a personal ethical model. Should one lie to a potential client? The lie helps to maintain good business relations perhaps, but all professionals involved in the care of people should make honesty an important part of an ethical model. Yet, a model of helping should go beyond one that only is centered on ethics. There are other considerations that seem to need definition. One important consideration is how the people who are in treatment, or receiving care, should participate in that care. The Planetree model for example takes the patients view into consideration and assumes that the client can think for himself ("The Planetree Model," 1990).
