be able to communicate with others to make their meaning clear. This paper discusses one such communicator, Richard Branson. Discussion Richard Branson was chosen because hes an unusual person. The
obvious choice is Barack Obama, but trying to find objective commentary on the President is almost impossible: either the sources are vitriolic rants about how hes destroying the country; or
they are overweening pieces of flattery. Likewise it would be possible to claim that people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are good communicators, except that their communication is one-sided
and tends to be hate-filled. Branson, as a non-political figure, is free from much of this bitter infighting. Besides, the photo of him in drag and full make-up (he was
launching his Virgin Brides enterprise) immediately indicates someone with not only good communications skills but a truly wacky sense of humor. According to Business Week, Branson is a good
communicator because he knows how to get the best from his people (Best business communicators). In addition to dressing like a bride (he makes a truly ugly woman), Branson "likes
to have fun and encourage his staff" (Best communicators). He believes in "lavishing praise on his employees," believing that they are like flowers: if they are watered they will thrive,
if theyre left to dry, they shrivel (Best communicators). So he is unceasing in his praise of his people, and they in turn have helped make the Virgin brand a
