21st Century. There are many lessons we can and should take from these humble men who dropped what they were doing to follow Jesus Christ. Most were just regular working men with families. Peter himself was following in his own fathers footsteps as a fisherman. Peters own faith in Christ was called into question and certainly many people today struggle with their faith. It was the metamorphosis of Peter over the years that is most inspirational to todays population. If this simple man could develop and grow in his faith to become the model for all Christians, then, all of us can do so, too. The NIV Study Bible (1995) notes that Peter was best known for: "his impetuous nature and fierce devotion to Christ; his denial that he ever knew Christ; the speech he made at Pentecost; his missionary zeal and testimony to the early church" (p. 1592). Peter was the most prominent of all Apostles, he was a spokesperson for the Apostles. His position was cemented when Christ said to Peter, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:17-19).
