to Women Unfortunately, however, women who try to make entry or to gain promotion in law enforcement and many other male-dominated fields often
meet with harsh resistance or even violent restraint. Whether or not men and women are treated equally in the United States is a hotly debated issue, one which although
difficult to actually quantify can be answered with a resounding yes. This is particularly true when a woman tries to enter an occupation in which men have typically dominated
such as law enforcement. Most often they encounter doubts about their size and strength and how they would be able to physically handle a, what is assumed by many
to be a physically demanding, law enforcement position. In rebuttal to this view, Grennan observes:
