An 18 page paper. Women represent almost half of the entire workforce in the United States but less than 3 percent of American CEOs are women. The percentage is expectedly even less in Japan. The executive level is male-dominated with barriers that few women are able to break through. This paper discusses those barriers. Three female CEOs (two American, one Japanese) are profiled with information about others who have reached high executive levels, including Carly Fiorina who is the first women in history to lead a Dow 30 company. What women executives believe is necessary to break through the glass ceiling is discussed. Statistical data are included. Bibliography lists 21 sources.
