Critics, artists and ordinary people claim it is not real art. People are critical of others as they explore dance or singing or writing. While pop stars are called "artists"
many say that their acts are contrived and that they are not real artists. They are not creative. They merely accept whatever their managers given them. This leads to a
very important question. What is an art form? According to the Free Dictionary the definition of art form is "a form of artistic expression (such as writing or painting or
architecture)" ("art form," 2003). A student writes that each of the following categories may be considered "art forms" : "Dance, visual art, music, film, television, radio, folk art, and theater."
Indeed, dance is something that many view as art and one only has to recall the efforts of Merce Cunningham and Twyla Tharpe to understand the artistic nature of dance.
Similarly, visual art and folk art are things that attract people. They are things that catch ones attention and are found in many areas. Music is auditory but is nevertheless
art and some social reinforcement for this stance is the fact that musicians today are called "artists." Film, television, radio and theater are mediums that are used for both works
of fiction or art or as devices to convey messages. However, artistic works of fiction also convey messages and are an outgrowth of the artist. All of these things are
