Spanish society revolved. Biographical background information Tirso de Molina (1572-1648) was born Gabriel Teliez in Madrid. A prodigious playwright, he was also an influential Spanish poet, as well as
a monk. Tirso joined the Order of Mercy on November 4, 1600 and entered the Monastery of San Antolin in 1601 (Tirso de Molina). His first publication was Cigarrales de
Toledo, which contained short tales, novels, poems and three plays (Tirso de Molina). The preface for this volume of work states that Tirso had already written three hundred plays (Tirso
