                                                    Paine 		Thomas Paine was born on January 29 in 1737 in Thetford, England to a poor Quaker family.2 His father was a corester by trade, making womens corsets.3 Although his  
                                                
                                                    father had grand ideas for his son, to perhaps see him become more than he himself was, Thomas did very poorly in school and failed by the time he was  
                                                
                                                    12.4 His father then took him under his wing and tried to make him an apprentice. Thomas, however, failed at this as well and simply hated the trade it seems.  
                                                
                                                    At the age of 19 he set out and began holding down various jobs. He was a tax officer in England and also wrote "The Case of the Officers of  
                                                
                                                    Excise (1772), arguing for a pay raise for officers."5 From the age of 19 onward for 24 years: "Paine held various jobs. He spent his spare time and money on
