a struggle integrating into American customs, mores and norms, so it stands to reason how the stigma attached to illegal Mexican immigrants not only face the same challenges but they are compounded by the antisocial attitudes they receive due to their unlawful status (Galuszka, 2008). Therapeutic treatment can help illegal Mexicans blend in more effectively by addressing specific aspects of cultural assimilation in a country where their presence is not entirely embraced. The Mexican population of Los Angeles, and more generally the Hispanic population, is growing by leaps and bounds. Moreover, much of that population is not assimilating. Whites arent encouraged to cast votes simply on the basis of their ethnic identification, but Mexicans are (McGrath, 2005, pp. 12-18). Economic opportunity abounds for illegal Mexican immigrants who seek out the fulfillment of American prosperity, affording them more productive and higher paid positions than their home countries could ever begin to realize. Since the time of the Jamestown settlement back in 1607, America has held a steadfast tradition of cradling immigrants within its bosom as though they were its own citizens. These past several hundred years established such a precedent of open heart/open door mentality, the melting pot has created wealth and stability for immigrants who would have otherwise struggled in their homelands. However, today is a different story with regard to the welcome Mexicans receive when illegally entering the country, not the least of which is the ability to assimilate into American culture as well as overcome issues of diversity.
