Judges make or break cases based upon their subjective opinions, a reality that has become ingrained within the American political process. Upholding a nations civil liberties is not as cut and dried as one might expect with having a number of guiding principles in writing, not the least of which is the United States Constitution. Still, new legal precedence is set quite regularly as laws are misinterpreted or restructured to reflect what the current Supreme Court declares is lawfully appropriate. Having ruled on such hotly debated topics as school prayer, abortion, religious allowances, capital punishment, gun control, physician assisted suicide and affirmative action most certainly involves heated discussions in the courtroom, however, it is not meant to influence judicial decision of those on the bench. This is where presidential appointment serves so significantly in the Supreme Courts role in the American political process: those who are chosen for the position already harbor certain opinions, judgments and agendas that fall in line with the current administration, which ultimately stacks the proverbial deck by guaranteeing how certain judges will rule based solely upon their biases.
