This is a 10 page original story about a rigid and cynical woman named Anne who after years of self discipline and running her life and the lives of her family finds herself confronted with a violent act which changes her life and her actions forever. Anne, as a probation officer becomes too close with a client she believes she has changed and asks him to help with chores at her house. The client ends up raping her daughter which changes the course of their lives forever. The story is told in third person, has a descriptive beginning, turning point and an end with effective dialogue used to highlight the characters.

had been raised. Her father had been a British army officer and when he retired from the army after the war he became a district police officer. He always instilled in Anne and her siblings a strict routine, a clean house and a heart felt punishment if his rules were not abided by. Annes mother had been a governess in the big house in Trent before marrying Charlie and was adamant about her childrens education and adherence to Charlies rules. Despite the unbending environment, Anne always felt that her brothers and sister and she had all done well and she was most at ease when her environment was clean, orderly and well disciplined. In addition, she took it upon herself to make her career, lifetime and marriage all operate under the same parameters. When Anne was seventeen she went to the local infirmary to earn her certificate in nursing and found that the sterile hospital environment quickly suited her needs for orderliness and discipline. She quickly excelled impressing the sisters with her head for discipline and what needed to be done to keep all of the new recruits in line. Once she had obtained head nurse status, she decided that she needed more of a challenge as she was confident that she had organized her wards to the utmost efficiency. At the same time, her best friend Jessica had written to her brother in Canada who recommended that she come and partake in all of the opportunities available there in the 1950s. Anne and Jessica got all of their needed visas organized and immigrated at once to Canada. Anne and Jessica met up with Sam, Jessicas brother in Toronto and because of their education and experience quickly obtained jobs at Toronto General Hospital.
