For quite some time, the region had been populated with British tourists who had a lot of money ("French Riviera, " 2006). It is a region that boasts beautiful shores and it lights up at night. Famous people are found there today but this was true in the past as well. Going back through history, Winston Churchill had been a prominent guest at the resorts there ("French Riviera," 2006). The region actually began as a resort town that was known for mild winters and so it became a winter retreat for vacationers ("French Riviera, " 2006). It makes sense. People look for places to go during the winter to escape cold climates. Yet, Cote dAzur today is most popularized as a summer resort area ("French Riviera, " 2006). Indeed, in todays day and age, the wealthy travel to beaches to enjoy the sun and warm ocean waters. And while this is a resort area, as any place where vacationers travel, food is paramount. What is the food like in CotedAzur? It seems that the food in the region is distinctive and based on herbs, garlic and olive oil (Sale, 1999). Indeed, it is a place that promotes a Mediterranean diet ("Cote dAzur," 2006). The fare includes things such as fresh tomatoes and seafood along with an array of vegetable choices such as eggplant, zucchini and artichokes ("Cote dAzur," 2006). Olives are also popular there along with spices and vegetables to give the food enhanced flavor ("Cote dAzur," 2006).
