The following paper summarizes the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 was an act that essentially set out to do what it states, offer up labor standards that were considered fair. In this particular act the minimum wage law was implemented, along with pay for overtime as it involved time and a half, and the law also prohibited the hiring of minors in order to avoid "oppressive child labor" (Wikipedia, 2006). Originally the law possessed other special elements such as exemptions for particular industries, but "the bulk of these exemptions have been repealed. Currently, the most important issues relate to the so-called white collar exemptions applicable to professional, administrative and executive employees" (Wikipedia, 2006). In the world of big business, especially in the past in this country, there was the issue of money and the power of money and how some companies would perhaps be exempt from the law concerning child labor, or restrictions on wages.
