Introduction The successes or failure of any organisations set up with specific tasks to perform will depend on many factors, the resources they have, the authority they are granted and the culture that is developed internally as a part of the functioning of the organisation. In commercial environment it can be argued that culture is important as it impacts on the way employees and management interact and the level of commitment and productivity that will impact on the bottom line. Where the organisation is not commercial, but has a social role to play, such as court, the culture may be seen as vital to the effective running of the organisation. Culture determines the way an organisation works, so in the legal environment this may also impact on the effective implementation of justice and the avoidance of any bias or prejudice in a system and the way it is enforced. In many instances courts will have a wealth of history that has aided the development of a enshrined culture, leading to an understanding of the enshrined values and expectations as well as resulting in outward symbols of that culture, such as the forms of address and the robes or uniforms that are worn. The outward symbols help to remind and reinforce the values and overall culture to those inside and outside the organisation.
