                                                    the play lends an air of mystery to it that scholars have debated the merits of for centuries.    What can we deduce was his own response to  
                                                
                                                    the agonies he endured while wrestling with the notion that he must murder Claudius and thereby avenge his father? Even Hamlet himself says, "I do not know."  
                                                
                                                    Though it would appear that Hamlet is psychologically prevented from performing the task of revenging his fathers murder, its ultimate source is never disclosed in  
                                                
                                                    the play.    On the one hand, the lack of explanation is seen as a flaw of the play; on the other hand, it is seen as creative  
                                                
                                                    genius on the part of Shakespeare.    However, no one will ever know if this was Shakespeares intent (which would validate the notion of creative genius) or not.
