quite some time. One of the regions that seems to experience terrorist activity almost on a daily basis is Europe. The following paper examines terrorism in Europe by first providing
an overview of terrorist activities in Europe, then discussing terrorism and the European Union, and then finishing with a discussion of how terrorism in Europe differs from terrorism in the
United States. Terrorism in Europe Terrorism takes place in Europe on a daily basis it seems. In further examining this claim we present just a few of the
more recent reports concerning terrorism and terrorist threats in Europe. In March of 2002 we heard the following: "New Scotland Yards says that they believe that the Real IRA is
believed to be plotting a new terrorist bombing campaign over Easter using booby-trapped devices hidden in what appear to be familiar objects. David Veness, Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner, who is
head of Specialist Operations, fears that the terrorists will plant explosives inside items such as traffic cones to trap police, security staff and members of the public in their attacks"
(Terrorism - Europe - Chronological Order, 2003). In November of last year we note the following threat: "three men have been arrested on charges of participating in an alleged
plot to release poison gas on the London Underground subway network. The men are described as North African Muslims and are said to belong to a group that has been
