Introduction The viewing public has always enjoyed watching sports competitions, from the days of the lions vs the Christians, to modern television coverage of the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia. The television sportscaster has become the modern story teller and a some time authority of these visual events. The sportscaster will not make or break the game, but he/she will influence it. Sportscasting Figure skating. Turner Broadcasting System follows the time-tested tradition of hiring Olympic Medal winners as its broadcasters in this sport. Currently both sportscasters are silver medal winners: and in the legendary plot of Turners Classic Movies, older male isteamed with perky younger woman. Which sport lends itself to television coverage is probably, to some degree a matter of personal choice. However, this authors vote would be for figure skating, due to the drama which the camera captures and that could be seen in not other way if not recorded on film. A viewer in an arena would get the overall effect of this artful sport with all its attending ambiance, but what the viewer at home might miss in ambiance is made up for in detail, whether it is a long range view of the ice, the face of the skater waiting for the judges scores, or the quick come back of some skaters after a fall.
