In many ways he spoke for the people, talking of things like politics, yet presenting the viewer with images of humanity. And, in presenting the viewer with images of reality he, more often than not, used humor and chaos. Bearing that in mind the following paper examines his play, "Comedy of Errors," discussing how it can likely be seen as the embodiment of the Shakespearean plot. Comedy of Errors "The Comedy of Errors is generally assumed to be one of Shakespeares early plays, (perhaps even his very first) and its emphasis on slapstick over verbal humor (in contrast with later comedies) has led many critics to term it an apprentice comedy" (Sparknotes). In this simple historical illustration we can see that, being a very early play, it possessed many of the qualities, fine tuned or not, that were a part of how Shakespeare interpreted history and human nature. While his work may have grown more subtle and more defined, the elements of that slapstick humor are present in almost every one of Shakespeares plays. For example, "The Taming of the Shrew" and "A Midsummer Nights Dream" are both plays which rely heavily on this sort of humor, though they may be more refined in a sophisticated sense than "Comedy of Errors." The point is that the essentially foundations for Shakespeares perceptions and perspectives of the nature of man were truly Shakespearean, despite the evolution they may have taken.
