thing to do then he had to make the decision he believed in. That is, the writer agrees with Lynchs decision to save Fritz. Discussion Lynch is obviously a cat
person; Fritz wandered into his life shortly after he lost another cat, a Himalayan hed had for 16 years (Lynch, 2007). He says, "I wasnt ready for another [cat], much
less a stray," so clearly he was still in the grieving process. Lynch, like most animal lovers, knows that the cat is a cat, not a person, but that doesnt
make the emotions connected with pet owning-the joys, the fears when medical tests are bad, the overwhelming sense of loss when they die-less important or less real because the object
of love is not human. First supporting point: Lynch and Fritz bonded almost immediately, despite the fact that Lynch did not want another cat at the time Fritz
came into his life. People who do not have pets dont understand, but the grief a person feels when a beloved pet dies is equivalent to the grief they
feel for a person; in some cases it is even greater, because the animal cannot speak and tell "his" person that he understands whats happening. That means that a pet
owner will always question his decisions because he has no way of knowing if thats what the animal wants. The point here is that even though Lynch was still grieving
deeply, he could not resist Fritz. That in turn makes Fritz a very special cat, and saving his life is thus not only important, but the right thing to do.
