Despite the fact that we have finally elected a man of mixed race to serve as the president of the
United States, racism is still alive and well in this country. This fact is quite perplexing given that the history of our country is grounded in ethnic and racial
diversity and in concepts such as equality. The purpose of this paper is to expose the contradiction that this presents. The contention will be made, however, that while
racism is very much an element in the relations between Americans, it is directed not just at one race but at all races. Whites, those that are most often
accused of perpetuating racism, are as much a target of racism today as is any other race in our country! Racism and discrimination
have indeed been predominant factors in shaping U.S. history. Throughout our history racism and discrimination have increased hand in hand with our countrys racial and ethnic diversity. Typically we
consider racism as something inflicted on blacks by whites. The reality is that racism is an element in much of the interaction between peoples of all color and ethnicity.
Blacks and whites alike are intolerant of Mexicans, Asians and other races and these other races are often intolerant of one another. Interestingly, however, thanks to revisionist history
