reorganize or change matter. When we discuss the concept of energy to power objects (like cars and machines) we mean how matter can be changed to allow that machine to
function properly. This type of energy is known as kinetic energy, or rather, the energy of motion. One example of this is the simple act of eating. Though we eat
to fill our stomachs, the tummy rumbling we experience is more than complaints about it being empty. Its the bodys signal to us that it needs fuel. Once we put
fuel (in the form of food) into our system, the body converts it to energy, allowing us to move our muscles, think and a whole variety of other activities.
Energy is also the transfer of heat - if, for example, someone us using the energy gained from a power bar to lift
weights, heat is transferred from that bar, to the weight-lifters muscles, while the brain tells those muscles what to do. Every time our weight-lifter pumps his barbell, he loses a
bit of energy, through heat (which is why a bodys core temperature raises when someone is working out). The same principle can
be used when it comes to someone who is running a fever. The fever, itself, isnt the illness. Rather, the fever is the bodys expenditure of energy to try to
combat the viral or bacterial infection. One reason why people with fevers tend to be not so hungry and weak is because the body is focusing all of its resources
