The ability to plan and manage a project requires a number of skills and an understanding of the project lifecycle. Looking at a potential project that may be seen in the area of social and healthcare a potential example is the setting up of a SureStart centre, a centre which is designed to be used by parents and provides a focal point of advice, care and services for pre school children. The centres already in operation provide classes, play sessions, support groups, access to health advice and health visitors and are a general support to parents. Setting up such a centre in any area involves many tasks and a number of different stakeholders. In order for this to be undertaken successfully each stage need to be considered with the use of a logical approach. In order to undertake good project management there needs to be careful communication and coordination with stakeholders and any relevant external agencies in order to make sure that the project goals are realistic and achieving aims which are desired. The stakeholders involved with this project would include local health authority, local health care providers, including the health visitors who will be incorporating visits to the SureStart centre within a schedule, in some cases the paediatric health visitors have moved their base of operations from the GP surgery to the SureStart centre, as it is possible for more resources to be made available in the way that sense it is designed, it also takes them closer, and helps to make more accessible, to their clients.
