I. BASIC RULES TO FOLLOW When it comes to preventing fires, nothing is more important than being able to identify them long before they get out of control. Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are two of the most critical prevention tools available to the general public. Prior to a fire ever igniting, smoke is emitted as a means by which to alert of the impending flames. Contemporary smoke detectors are so sensitive that they are able to feel the fire in time for people to escape to safety. At the time of this escape, people should not be arbitrarily running through the home or building to just any exist; rather, a preplanned escape route should be firmly in place and reviewed by all on a regular basis. If the building is more than one story high, a rope-style or other sturdy ladder should be accessible. "Because of the fire you cant see and your access can be cut off.
