The notion of community policing has become a necessary evil in todays ever-threatened global society. That criminal activity far surpasses law enforcements ability to keep it in check is indicative of how vital community policing - "a partnership between the police and the community, sharing in the delivery of police services" (Himelfarb et al, 2002) - has become as a viable alternative to help enhance an otherwise shorthanded guardian system. However, as good as any given program might be, there are bound to be drawbacks that serve to impede the very objective it seeks to achieve. Community policing seeks to address the myriad inadequacies that existed in the current way law enforcement engage with, for example, urban youth. Falk (2005) and Wolfer (1999) concur that to dispel this overwhelmingly negative atmosphere is first, foremost and absolutely critical to the success of any community cohesiveness; oftentimes just the presence of too many patrol officers instigates retaliatory criminal activity as an expression of defiance.
