In addition to this with the increased personal investment that takes place as a result of the ending of student grants, there is also more information demanded form the students regarding the performance of the universities or collages they may seek to attend. To this end there have been different performance measures developed to show the performance of the educational establishment. Performance indicators are useful as long as they are placed in the correct context and the measurement itself is understood. There are many different types of measures., If we look at what these indicators are we many then consider if they are effective and useful, and if they should be developed or changed. One measure that is commonly understood is that of the league tables, this shows the position of the university in terms of the results it obtains regarding the results of the degrees awarded. However, this is also one of the most widely criticised measures, it is both subjective in terms of the intake, the subjects taught and the way that the results are interpreted. There is an ability to compare different universities, but the tables cannot show if the reader is comparing like with like.
