they must have a strong mission statement. In a short succinct sentence, most mission statements help define the overall goal or purpose of a particular company. They let the consumer
know how decisions are made and the type of clientele the company is out to serve. Mission statements come in many shapes and forms, but strong mission statements all have
certain characteristics that separate them from their competition. And often times, it is a mission statement that can cause a business to be successful or force it to shut its
doors. One major characteristic a good mission statement should have is that it should be visionary (eBusiness Plan, 2010). In other words, the person reading the mission
statement should have a basic understanding of what the business aspires or is aspiring to be. Those who read it should be able to comprehend the overall nature of the
business and the types of goods and services that company provides. Furthermore, the goals of the organization, while not in too much detail, should be stated or inferred so the
general public knows why the company is in business and what it is out to achieve. It should be noted that this does not always equate to large profits and
lots of money. Municipalities and governmental entities also have mission statements for their individual departments. Parks and recreation departments for example are not as concerned with revenue as they are
