Access 97/2000/2002 is a "powerful relational database application with which a desktop user can efficiently create and manipulate database systems" (Microsoft, 2002). The main group of users for this application are desktop users, such as individuals or small workgroups who use databases which measure megabytes (Microsoft, 2002). This is an application that will work well as the front and IDE for use in client or server databases (Kaufmann, 2002).Overall functionality is more than just as a data management application, but also to store procedures, manage table definitions, index and perform other database management systems that are needed for the DBA (Kaufmann, 2002). The architecture of the application is as a file server instead of a client server structure (Microsoft, 2002). As this is aimed at the desk top users that needs to manage and use databases, as such it is included in several office suits including the professional edition, developer editions (Microsoft, 2002). The graphical interface is designed to be simple to use, and has a high level of integration with the entire office suite, and has similar functions and style to that of the other applications such as word and Excel (Microsoft, 2002). There are a range of wizards to increase ease of use and a query wizard to help with the finding of data (Microsoft, 2002). Underlying this fa?ade there is the facility of Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) as a programming language as well as the tool bars.
