In fact, most sex researchers agree that masturbation is a healthy part of sexuality and that treating it otherwise can lead to sexual dysfunction (Rosellini, 1997). Children who are punished for masturbating, for example, may grow up to look at sex as evil (1997). Masturbation to some is embarrassing and hardly enters discussions, just as are some personal things that people hardly mention like urinating or defecating. It is not a pleasant topic and while sexual in nature, it is more a bodily function than a stimuli. Of course, some men are aroused by watching women masturbate, and it is possible that masturbation is a sexual stimulus, but by and large it is something to do when one does not have other sexual options. It generally serves as a substitute for intercourse. Many think of masturbation as an act of sexual self-pleasure, and it is, but it is more than a simple act. It can include a variety of things which act as stimuli. Pornography, peep shows or other individuals may accompany a person who is engaging in this form of sexual stimulation.
