climax. This paper compares the characters of Macbeth and Macduff as husbands, soldiers and leaders. Discussion The relationship between Macbeth and his lady is one that has inspired a
great deal of speculation because of the control she has over him. Macbeth is a kings man, loyal to Duncan, and yet it takes almost no time for Lady
Macbeth to persuade him to murder the king. When he first encounters the witches who tell him he will be king, he says "If chance will have me king,
why, / chance may crown me / Without my stir" (I, iii, 143). In other words, if hes supposed to be king it will happen without him having to
do anything. But when he writes his wife to tell her about the prophesy, she immediately sees that the quickest way to the throne is to murder the king;
however, she doesnt think Macbeth has it in him: "Yet do I fear thy nature, / It is too full o th milk of human kindness / To catch
the nearest way" (I, v, 16-18). When he comes home, she immediately tells him that he should not allow Duncan to leave in the morning (i.e., kill him);
Macbeth says only "We will speak further" (I, v, 71). The next time we see Macbeth he has a long soliloquy in which he enumerates Duncans many good points
and we can clearly see that he doesnt want to do this; then Lady Macbeth comes in and convinces him that their plan will succeed: "But screw your courage to
the sticking place, / And well not fail" (I, vii, 60). Within a few lines, Macbeth goes to murder Duncan. This complete turnaround, which Macbeth himself attributes to "vaulting
