in general for them. Yet, women have many roles in politics and some of these go unnoticed. The roles of women as voters, candidates and officeholders are just a few. While women do have significant roles in politics, there have been obstacles presented that women face and have faced throughout the decades. Of course, one may start ad the beginning. When discussing politics many would like to go back to the founding fathers, what they meant and what was the vision for the country. Yet, when discussing the political role of women in this context and particularly as voters, one is hard pressed to find a tradition other than one that goes to protest. It took some time for women to achieve the right to vote and so in this political role, she has limited voice at least in longevity. She has no tradition onto which to hold, no legacy to fulfill and she does not have the two hundred odd years of history that do men. Hence, the woman to some extent is a disenfranchised voter, in part due to this legacy, and in part, due to the fact that there is no equality for women in society in general. Why might the latter matter? It is easier for those with more means to vote. People who do not vote notoriously do not have the wherewithal to do so. They are trapped in their homes perhaps or do not have cars to take them from their rural residences and the voting booths are simply too far away. Because women tend to live in poverty at greater rates than do men, they may not live in districts with proper election equipment.
