in film or in a production it is an astounding work that truly brings Shakespeare to life, and Henry V. One of the most famous productions of this particular play
is one directed and starred in by Kenneth Branagh. Today he is well known as a powerful Shakespearean actor but when this film was done it was apparently only his
second film (Ebert). The following paper offers a reflection/analysis of this particular film. Kenneth Branaghs Henry V The story of Henry V is a story of warfare and
political power. In this story Henry, who had previously been something of a brawling young man who spent a great deal of time with less than desirable characters and a
great deal of time in taverns, is now the leader of his people due to his fathers death. While people familiar with Henry V know this already, coming from one
of Shakespeares other plays, a viewer of this film will quickly realize this past in light of the fact that some of his former friends, back in the tavern lifestyle,
are still involved. But, in the film one sees that Henry V is now a man and he must make difficult decisions for his people now that he is the
king. In many ways Branagh is quite believable as such a man. He seems to have the looks of a young man who would be seen in a tavern,
yet his character, the way he portrays the characters, makes him believable as a man who has matured enough to know that he must do what is right. Roger Ebert
