the student goes on to say, there is a great debate on public education today and some want to move to a private system with vouchers and charter schools. The question posed by a student is: "Do you agree with the Founding Fathers belief that public education and democracy are inseparable, and why?" There is a great debate in society today. Many liberals support public education and draw attention to the Founders, and democracy, in an attempt to claim that public education is about fairness. However, the privileged attend private universities, and in fact enter Ivy League life much more often than their less wealthy counterparts. It is true that in the United States of America-a place with a solid public education system-that private institutions are still much better. Some politicians, in an attempt to level the playing field, claim that vouchers would help to that end. That is, poor children should obtain some relief by being able to attend private institutions. Yet, the liberals for the most part claim that this is something that would only provide a good education for some. The issue is that not everyone would be well served by voucher programs. The Founding Fathers belief that public education and democracy are inextricable is fine, but what should not be overlooked is that times have changed. Today, children receive a public education. They are entitled to that, and they do not have to pay. In reality, the public education system is not as good as the private schools and so, children from all walks of life are not getting a stellar education. When looking at wealthy politicians for example, one sees that they often have Harvard or Yale diplomas, but such schools are very expensive.
