Did he do his job or has he created a situation where the CIA is now considered inept? It missed al Qaidas disastrous plot and had not even seen Saddam Hussein as a threat. Much criticism has come down on the CIA, particularly since the terrorist attacks. Who is George Tenet and is he really doing a good job? George J. Tenet had been involved in government for quite some time. He became involved in public life early on in his career. Tenet received his bachelors degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1976 and then went on to receive a Masters at Columbia in 1978 ("George, "2002). Tenet was nominated by President Clinton and in a speech, Tenet is praised as follows: "Since joining our administration, he has maintained a strong relationship in Congress. He knows well the concerns of the intelligence community as well. He knows that I must have the unvarnished truth. He knows how critical timely, reliable intelligence is to our Nations security. Im proud to nominate him for this vital job and very grateful for the service that he has rendered to our administration and to our country" (Clinton, 1997). Yet, since Tenet took the helm, there have been many serious breaches from Chinagate where the Chinese stole important military secrets to other spy matters to a failure to detect the serious event of September 11, 2001.
