This 9 page paper discusses the present international laws concerning intellectual property rights. The Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works established some international copyright standards in 1886. Concern regarding the enforcement of the Berne agreements led to the GATT Uruguay Round Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights in 1994. The advent and evolution of the digital world and the transmission and posting of information in cyberspace led to the formation of two treaties by WIPO in 1996. These clearly cover a variety of aspects related intellectual property and specifically address computer software. Each of these treaties is discussed to provide a comprehensive picture of international laws regarding intellectual property. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
