mechanical explanation of both humanity and the world. This work caused an even greater level of controversy and subsequent outcry against him, resulting that he lived in Berlin protected
and supported by Frederick the Great. It is accurate to describe Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) as one of the greatest of all philosophers.
Born in K?nigsburg, East Prussia, he was something of a child prodigy who entered the university at age 16 and became a popular lecturer, writer, and philosopher before he had
even turned thirty. Kants thought was mainly influenced by the rationalism of Gotfried Wilhem von Leobniz and Christian Wolff and the empiricism of David Hume. His greatest work, the Critique
of Pure Reason (1781), serves as a integration of rationalism and empiricism, both of which, he was certain, gave only a one-sided view of human understanding and knowledge. Kant and
